A Tragic Road Crash: The Stories of Two Teenagers Lost

A Country Road Crash Claims the Lives of Two Teenagers

In a heart-wrenching incident, two teenagers, Chloe Naylor, 16, and Adam, 17, lost their lives in a car crash on Old Ferry Road, Iwade, near Sittingbourne. The crash occurred on Saturday, January 3rd, around 8:30 p.m., leaving the community in shock and grief.

The blue Ford Fiesta veered off the carriageway near a bend, resulting in the tragic loss of these young lives. Emergency services, including police officers, paramedics, fire crews, and an air ambulance, responded swiftly to the scene. The two teenagers who were in the car, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, were pronounced deceased at the scene. A third occupant, a 16-year-old girl, was taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

The tragedy sparked an outpouring of support and love for the families affected. Floral tributes were left at the crash site, and two GoFundMe pages were set up to raise funds for the families. One of the pages was created by Eleanor Olsen, a friend of Chloe's, who shared a heartfelt message about the loss of her daughter's best friend.

Eleanor wrote, "You may have heard about the tragic death of my daughter’s best friend Chloe, on Saturday, the 3rd of January, in a fatal car accident. Chloe was just 16 years old. Chloe’s mum, Donna, has been a good friend to me over the years, helping me when I was in hospital and as many of you know, she has a heart of gold. I am therefore creating a GoFundMe page as Donna would like to have a horse and carriage at Chloe’s funeral so Chloe can go as a princess."

The 17-year-old boy, identified as Adam, was described as a bright and cheerful soul, always smiling and full of life. His friend, Sam Thurman-Newell, expressed their heartbreak over the loss, saying, "Adam was a very special friend, and our boys are absolutely devastated by this heartbreaking loss. Adam was always smiling and full of life and his loss has left such a huge hole in everyone who knew him, but especially Adam’s parents."

The GoFundMe pages have been a source of comfort for the families, with the combined efforts raising over £10,000. The pages can be found here: Chloe's page (https://www.gofundme.com/f/andjbv-chloes-fund) and Adam's page (https://www.gofundme.com/f/our-boys-best-friend-adamwho-put-a-smile-on-everyones-face).

The tragedy has brought attention to the dangerous nature of Old Ferry Road, which is a country road used by drivers traveling between Sittingbourne and Medway. The road was closed for several hours after the crash, and the remains of other cars from previous accidents were still visible at the scene. Local councillor Kelvin Rivers-Simpson expressed concern, stating, "It is very dangerous. The parish council are looking at doing something in that corner there because it is dangerous."

This incident is just one of several tragic accidents in the Swale/Medway area in recent weeks. On Christmas Eve, a woman in her 20s died in a crash on the M2 near the motorway services and turn-off for Gillingham. Just two days before New Year's, an 89-year-old great-grandfather died after being carried more than a mile on top of a car that crashed into him in Gillingham. Last Sunday, a motorcyclist was killed on the same stretch of the M2.

These incidents highlight the ongoing need for road safety improvements in the area. As the community mourns the loss of these young lives, there is a call for action to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
