Harry Potter Mega Store Coming to London's Oxford Street! | 21,000 sq ft of Wizarding World (2026)

Bold statement: a new flagship Harry Potter store is headed to London’s Oxford Street, signaling a bold fusion of storytelling and shopping that few franchises pull off with such bravura. But here’s where it gets controversial: will this be a magical, immersive experience that truly enhances fans’ journeys, or a high-profile push to steer visitors away from independent outlets and into a branded labyrinth of merchandise?

Warner Bros has revealed plans for a two-floor, 21,000 sq ft Harry Potter store on Oxford Street, one of the city’s busiest retail arteries. The Global Experiences division describes it as an “interactive retail experience” that will recreate some of the series’ most iconic locations, offer “photo moments,” and feature exclusive merchandise.

Karl Durrant, representing Warner’s worldwide retail arm, explains that the store, expected to open in autumn, is designed to bridge traditional brick-and-mortar attractions with contemporary shopping opportunities. He emphasizes that fans will gain a fresh, in-city way to immerse themselves in the magical world that the books and films have long popularized.

Positioned at the corner of Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road, the store sits within easy reach of the theatre district, including the ongoing Cursed Child stage production. The show will switch from a two-part format to a single part on 6 October, aligning with other international productions.

London already hosts a smaller official Harry Potter shop at Kings Cross station—near a popular photo moment where visitors can pretend to push a trolley through a brick wall to access Platform 9¾. Nearby, Warner’s Leavesden studio near London runs Potter-themed tours, and Universal Studios parks host six Harry Potter attractions worldwide.

Globally, major Harry Potter retail outlets exist in major cities such as New York, Chicago, and Tokyo. Oxford Street already features a mix of official and unofficial Potter-themed shops, some of which have faced scrutiny over business practices.

The new London store is expected to draw fans and tourists, potentially channeling foot traffic toward its doors and away from less authorized sellers. It opens ahead of a wave of interest around the 25th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, fueling anticipation for renewed media activity surrounding the franchise’s world.

Next year will also bring HBO’s adaptation of JK Rowling’s books, expanding the world further and exploring details that the films, with their fast pace, could not fully capture.

Since 1997, the Harry Potter books have sold more than 600 million copies worldwide, and the film series has become one of the highest-grossing franchises in history, grossing about $7.7 billion at the global box office.
